Northern Heavy Industries CEO Zhang Yifei attends the high-level dialogue event of the 2025 China Heavy Machinery Technology Conference
On October 14th, the 2025 China Heavy Machinery Technology Conference was grandly held in Zhengzhou, Henan Province. NHI was invited to participate in this grand event, and the CEO Mr Zhang Yifei attended the high-level dialogue activities of six major heavy machinery enterprises to discuss the high-quality development plan of the heavy machinery industry with industry colleagues.
Zhang Yifei stated in his speech that heavy machinery is the backbone of the country's manufacturing industry. In the face of a new round of technological revolution and profound industrial changes, NHI adheres to innovation driven development, accelerates the cultivation of new quality productivity, and promotes the transformation and upgrading of enterprises towards "digitalization, intelligence, greenness, and high-end", contributing the strength of NHI to the construction of a modern industrial system.
Currently, the heavy machinery industry is undergoing profound changes, facing both challenges of global industrial chain restructuring and opportunities for technological upgrading. Under these circumstances, NHI has always regarded innovation as the primary driving force for development, continuously increasing research and development investment, and building a technology innovation system with enterprises as the main body, market orientation, and deep integration of industry, academia, research and application.
Zhang Yifei pointed out that NHI is in a critical period of value positioning reconstruction and is constantly striving to transform from an equipment supplier to a solution service provider. Through high-end equipment upgrades, digital transformation, and green leadership, it fully leverages the advantages of private enterprise mechanisms, adheres to its main business, explores and innovates, and strives to occupy a place in the industry landscape.
High-end upgrading to serve the national strategy
In the field of high-end equipment manufacturing, NHI has collaborated with Northeastern University to develop a long-term high-load loading system for the 5-meter × 5-meter × 5-meter geological model in the "Super-large Deep Engineering Disaster Physical Simulation Facility", providing crucial support for China's deep underground safety scientific research
The independently developed complete equipment for the transportation and blending of anti-seepage soil materials for ultra-high earth-rock dam, which is an "international first", is the world's highest dam under construction for the Shuangjiangkou Hydropower Station, solving the world-class problem of continuous and precise construction of core dam materials in the complex environment of the plateau.
In the field of tunnel engineering, NHI has overcome a number of "bottleneck" technologies. We have developed China's first 100% domestically produced shield machine, and its key components such as main bearings and cutting tools have been fully independently controllable.
Digital transformation enhances manufacturing capabilities
In terms of digital transformation, NHI has established an industry-leading intelligent manufacturing factory, achieving digital control and intelligent decision-making in the production process. By introducing new technologies, NHI have achieved remarkable improvements in production efficiency, production cycles and operating costs.
Zhang Yifei particularly shared the "Beizhong Discovery" intelligent manufacturing platform independently developed by NHI. This platform has established a full-process digital system from customer management to production execution. And through CRM system, the entire sales process is digitally managed, driving sales revenue to grow against the trend. Through the production big data platform, equipment interconnection and full-process data control are achieved, increasing production efficiency by 20% and reducing costs by 10%.
Green leadership focusing on sustainable development
In terms of green development, in recent years,NHI has focused on the equipment demands in the field of pumped storage power station construction. It has successively developed equipment such as small turning radius full-face hard rock tunnel boring machines, horizontal and inclined integrated variable diameter full-face tunnel boring machines, and vertical shaft tunnel boring machines. Moreover, by developing a new generation of intelligent tunneling systems, it has improved equipment efficiency and reduced energy consumption.
Meanwhile, NHI has also devoted a great deal of effort to the green transformation and upgrading of mining equipment. In 2021, it independently developed and manufactured the world's largest power of 4,500 horsepower spiral vertical mill at that time. This year, the world's first large spiral vertical mill adopting permanent magnet semi-direct drive technology was successfully launched. The equipment is operating well at the project site, which provided new typical solutions for the green development of the mining industry.
Look in to future and define development direction
Regarding future plans, Zhang Yifei stated that NHI will focus on three major directions: First, it will deeply cultivate intelligence and build an "Intelligent Heavy Industry" ecosystem; Second, expand the field of new energy equipment to support the realization of the country's "dual carbon" goals; Third, we will promote the internationalization strategy and accelerate the pace of going global.
Innovation is an inherent gene of NHI. Zhang Yifei reviewed the development process of the enterprise. He said that from the first heavy machinery in New China - the 5-ton steam hammer, to the current export of intelligent complete sets of equipment overseas, NHI has always been at the forefront of technological innovation in the industry. Looking ahead, Zhang Yifei said, "The heavy machinery industry is facing unprecedented opportunities and challenges." NHI will seize the historical opportunity, fully activate the flexible and efficient mechanism advantages of private enterprises, accelerate the pace of transformation and upgrading, continue to uphold the vision of "building a world-class heavy industry enterprise", and join hands with industry partners to jointly promote China's heavy machinery industry to move towards the high end of the global value chain.
